  • 6 cups of store-bought croissants for French toast pieces
  • 1 dark chocolate bar of 3.5 oz, divided into 8 pieces
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1 cup maple syrup (preferably very dark syrup for its strong flavor)
  • Softened butter
  • 1/2 cup maple sugar


  1. Preheat oven to 400 °F. Cut the croissants open and fill with a piece of chocolate and dried cranberries. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, beat eggs and add milk, cream and maple syrup. Grease a large Pyrex dish with butter, place the croissants in it, pour the egg mixture over them and sprinkle with maple sugar.
  3. Bake for 45 minutes.
  4. Serve with maple syrup.
